Observation : Financial ruin from medical bills is almost exclusively an American disease. (by Roul Turley)
Although healthcare reform now progressing into the implementation stage, that doesn’t mean the battle is over.
Karl Rove has alluded to the Obama Administration having an “enemies list” … well, let’s just say that some groups are willing to put their money into campaigns that they want to influence.
Case in point : Radio advertisements in the amount of $64,750.00 as an independent expenditure by the American Academy of Ophthalmology in support of the candidacy of Erik Paulsen (R-MN-03).
Why the love for Erik Paulsen ? After all, the American Academy of Ophthalmology has only spent money on six contests ?
Or is it anger directed at his opponent, Jim Meffert ?
Before, Jim Meffert was a candidate for Congress, he was Executive Director of the Minnesota Optometric Association (MOA) as well as past president of the Minnesota Parent Teachers Association (PTA).
Hmmm … is it Meffert’s association with the Optometric practice that generates the advocacy for Paulsen ? Well, consider that the only optometrist now serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, John Boozman (R-Arkansas) could become the first optometrist ever elected to the Senate if he defeats Democrat Blanche Lincoln …. And the American Academy of Ophthalmology has also made Congressman Boozman a target, the answer is quite obvious.
During the healthcare reform debate, the Ophthalmology industry was quite vocal … no doubt because as we age, our eyes go … and the Medicare dollars go to the Ophthalmology industry … and they do not want to see any changes.
Voters in Minnesota’s Third District need to put blinders on … big bucks are trying to sway your vote.
