Manufacturers learned a long time ago that Henry Ford was right … “you can have any color you want as long it’s black” which has been slightly modified such that now there are nine colors to choose from for the Ford Focus … but look under the hood and notice that parts are interchangeable with other models. The color of the car does not matter … that’s just for show. It’s what’s under the hood that matters.
Well, take 30 seconds and watch this video
The theme is immigration … but the same commercial could be produced substituting many other issues :
— Background check on gun purchases (H.R. 1565 : the “Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act” a bipartisan bill with 184 sponsors)
— Mental-health (H.R. 401: Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Act of 2013 a bipartisan bill with 32 sponsors)
— Voting rights that the U.S. Supreme Court declared unconstitutional in June and Eric Cantor and Jim Sensenbrenner vowed to correct.
— Employment non-discrimination (H. R. 1755 a bipartisan bill with 193 sponsors)
— Healthcare (H.R.3121 : the American Health Care Reform Act of 2013 which has 93 sponsors)
— Cost of college (H.R.1716 : Earnings Contingent Education Loans Act of 2013 a bipartisan bill with 4 sponsors)
— Roads and bridges (H.R.2610 : Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2014)
And we could go on … the commercial’s theme would be the same — John Kline was elected to do a job and he is failing.
But is he ?
No, John Kline is succeeding. Remember that Speaker Boehner set the goal — the GOP “ought to be judged on how many laws we repeal.”
John Kline is succeeding by GOP standards — the Great Obstructionist Party does not want gun laws changed, voting rights, ENDA, healthcare, or the government to be involved in education, heck, they do not even want to fund highway reconstruction.
To be fair, John Kline has advanced some legislation … he reformed student loans so that the US Treasury is guaranteed to profit and offered H. R. 5 : The Student Success Act which even the US Chamber of Commerce recommended a NO vote … and at the same time making massive funding cuts in Head Start and other educational programs.
The purpose of the commercial is to encourage voters to contact Congressman Kline and tell him it’s time to vote on H.R. 15 : Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act … but the same can be said for so many other bills.
But don’t bother trying to call Congressman Kline this week … he’s on another vacation.
