Republicans Define The Rule of Law Differently

Trump has broken the law. Several times.

Let me give you a partial list –

The Impoundment Act of 1974 – Withholding appropriated money designated for a foreign country. (The office of OMB/GAO confirmed this)

Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 610 Which makes it a crime — indeed, a felony, punishable by up to three years in prison — for “any person to intimidate, threaten, command, or coerce, or attempt to intimidate, threaten, command, or coerce, any employee of the Federal Government.

Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA), 52 U.S.C.- The government watchdog group CREW outlines 8 violations of this act HERE.

The Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act of 1998 (ICWPA)– Laurence Tribe noted – Trump “violated the letter and spirit of the ICWPA” by sharing a name that he held to be that of the whistleblower with over 60 million people on Twitter “for vengeful reasons.”

There are other crimes which Trump is “immune” from being charged with. The Courts don’t know how to handle his violations of the Emoluments Clause because no President in history has ever dared brush up against this Constitutional firewall.

Trump bribed Ukraine. He just tried to bribe New York State. And he wants to even change the law to make business “bribery” with foreign countries legal.

He confiscated the notes of a translator in a meeting with Putin. That violates the records act. He disclosed classified information to the Russians in the Oval Office after firing Comey. That is technically NOT a violation because once the President says it out loud, it is no longer classified.

He wants to end the practice of having his phone calls with foreign leaders monitored by staff. Another potential violation of the records act.

The Courts have blocked a number of his initiatives because they are simply illegal….

Dec. 11, 2019 – Courts block Trump administration plan to use military funds for border wall

Jan 15, 2020 – A federal judge in Maryland blocked a directive by President Donald Trump that would allow states and local governments to reject the resettlement of refugees in their communities

June 27, 2019 – Supreme Court Blocks Trump Push to Add Citizenship Question to Census

Nov. 26, 2019 –  A U.S. judge in Oregon on Tuesday granted a preliminary injunction blocking a Trump administration proclamation that would require immigrants to show proof of health insurance to get a visa.

July 10, 2019 – A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that Trump’s penchant for blocking his Twitter foes officially violates the First Amendment.

And more cases are pending or working their way through the courts.

Six full members of the Trump administration have either gone to jail or are under indictment. The Obama administration never had a single one. Yet, the Trumpers continue to promote the idea that the Obama administration was the “lawless” one.

Through all of this, Republicans in Congress have been complicit with everything Trump has tried to do. There are no rebukes. No Oval Office sessions. No objections in public. Whatever Trump tries to do gets a no comment from the GOP leadership.

What is there definition of “rule of law”? It appears to be, “whatever keeps us in power”. That is not a proper definition. Laws always have a purpose. You can change the ones you don’t like or repeal the ones that are no longer relevant. BUT YOU CANNOT IGNORE THEIR EXISTENCE! That is what the Congressional Republicans are doing. They keep trying to find any kind of potential wrong doing from Democrats, while ignoring the growing list of lawlessness in their own Party. It is a breach of their oath. They should be removed.

I have to agree with Elizabeth Warren, who is the only Presidential candidate that still calls for an independent investigation of the entire Trump administration if she is elected. This really is important. We have to find the corruption within, because there is no way to know what else could be unearthed in this “transparent” (NOT) administration.

That is the only way to get facts needed to put together legislation that will prevent this scourge of lawlessness from ever happening again.
