Today is Memorial Day. It is a time to honor and remember those Americans who gave their lives in service to their country. Their bravery, their loss, and their memory are all important reminders of the importance of giving service to honor and respect your country and your fellow citizens.
It is ironic that the traditional Memorial Day ceremony at the Arlington National Ceremony will be given by Donald Trump. He is notable because he refused to serve his country during the Vietnam War. Instead, he used his family’s wealth and influence to buy the “diagnosis” of having a bone-spur, thus preventing him from joining the military. This despite the fact that he was somehow able to play football during his high school career.
So, say a prayer and a thank you to those we honor this day. And remember those who helped serve and protect our country, not those who refused service and dodged the draft.
