Flashback to March 6th, MPR’s Kerri Miller featured Minnesota’s Sixth District Congressman Tom Emmer providing his assessment of the Covid-19 situation … Congressman Emmer wants us to be “hopeful” because the vaccine is closer than you think — “I heard it could be imminent” … “much sooner than a year” and that if the corona virus was going to happen, “I would rather be here” with our healthcare system than Canada.
Hmmm …. what was it that President Trump said in a recent Chris Wallace FOX interview … “I’ll be right eventually”
The vaccine is still in testing stages … as part of the Trump Administration’s America First race to a vaccine paid $1.2 BILLION to at least one company in the hopes for 300- 400 million doses of a coronavirus vaccine that has no guarantee will work … of course there are over 195 other candidate vaccines in development, 19 of which are in some stage of clinical trials.
Yeah … “imminent” … The vaccine is not here in Minnesota where the state has confirmed over 47,000 cases … with the state setting a new record of positive tests confirmed yesterday and the latest death — a nine-month child.
Flashback to June 12 as Congressman Emmer joined Members of the congressional Northern Border Caucus to write DHS Acting Secretary Chad Wolf and Canada’s Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness in the House of Commons expressing disappointment of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) March 24 decision to imposed travel restrictions at Land Ports of Entry between the U.S. and Canada.
Flashback to June 25 when Congressman Emmer released the following statement: “Out of an abundance of caution, I have decided to self-quarantine at home” … you will never guess which Minnesota Republican Congressman attended Trump’s Tulsa rally … hint his first name is Tom.
Flashback to July 17 when Canada and the Trump Administration have once again agreed to extend the border closure for another 30 days, until August 21.
Baseball fans already know that the Blue Jays won’t play their home games in Toronto this year because Canada’s government doesn’t think it’s safe for players to travel back and forth to the US.
Can you blame Canada ?
The U.S. currently has over 3.8 million COVID-19 cases and over 140,000 deaths.
In contrast, Canada has over 100,000 cases and under 9,000 deaths … soon there could be five US states with more deaths than Canada.
Even when taking into account the difference in population, the number of cases in the U.S. is significantly higher than in Canada … and the number of US hospitals at capacity suggests that even Tom Emmer might not want to say “I would rather be here”.
Congressman Emmer bashed Canada’s healthcare system yet is reported that somewhere between 5 and 27 million people in the U.S. may have lost employer-sponsored insurance due to rampant job losses brought on by COVID19. And what is the heatlhcare cost for all those hospital stays and treatments … that are being borne by employer plans, individual plans, MNSure, Medicaid or Medicare …. the individual ? What will next year’s rates be?
Congressman Emmer has exposed himself as the consummate Trump Pocket Protector.
FlashFORWARD to Tuesday, November 3 when voters will get a chance to determine if Congressman Emmer deserves another term to prove the assertion that “I’ll be right eventually” … or give someone else a chance — Tawnja Zahradka (@Tawnja4Congress) who is running to replace him.
